The Product You Use Decides How Long Extensions Last
Keratin bond extensions are an investment, and the single fastest way to ruin them is the wrong shampoo. The right products keep the bonds intact and the hair soft for 12–18 months. The wrong ones strip the bonds, dry out the hair, and slide capsules loose in weeks. This is a simple, no-nonsense guide to what to buy, what to avoid, and exactly how to wash. It applies to all three of our methods — Micro, Standard, and Nano Keratin Bond.
What to Look For in a Shampoo
The best shampoo for keratin bond extensions is sulfate-free, gentle, and pH-balanced. That is the whole rule. Sulfate-free is non-negotiable — sulfates are harsh detergents that dry out the hair and break down the keratin bonds over time.
Look for:
You do not need a specific expensive brand. Many salon sulfate-free shampoos work well. If you want a shortlist matched to your hair and your water, send us a photo on WhatsApp and we will recommend a couple of options at different price points.
Ingredients to Avoid
Some ingredients quietly destroy keratin bonds. Keep these away from the bonded area:
The oils are the surprise for most clients. Oil is great for your ends, but at the root it is the enemy of a keratin bond.
How to Wash Keratin Bond Extensions, Step by Step
Conditioner and Masks: Where They Go (and Where They Don't)
Conditioner is good for extensions — placement is everything. Apply conditioner and weekly masks from the mid-lengths to the ends only. Keep both at least two inches away from the bonds and your scalp.
Why: conditioners and masks are designed to soften and loosen — exactly what you do not want happening to a keratin bond. On the ends they keep Slavic & European hair silky and tangle-free. On the bonds they cause slippage. A hydrating mask once a week on the lengths is ideal in Miami's dry-then-humid swings.
Can You Use Dry Shampoo on Extensions?
Yes — with one rule: spray it at the scalp between the bonds, not directly onto the capsules. Dry shampoo is genuinely useful for extensions because it lets you wash less often, and less washing means longer-lasting bonds.
Hold the can about 8 inches away, spray in sections at the roots, wait a minute, then brush through gently. Avoid build-up directly on the bond line — caked dry shampoo around a capsule can dry it out and make it brittle. Choose a lightweight, alcohol-light formula and do not let it replace real washing entirely. Two to three dry-shampoo days between washes is a healthy rhythm.
Leave-In, Heat Protectant, and Styling Products
The theme never changes: nourish the lengths, protect the bonds, keep oil and weight away from the capsules.
How Often Should You Wash?
Two to three times a week is the sweet spot for keratin bond extensions. Daily washing is too much — it dries the hair and stresses the bonds. Going too long between washes lets scalp oil migrate down to the capsules and loosen them.
In Miami's heat, if you sweat heavily or work out daily, rinse with lukewarm water and condition the ends rather than doing a full shampoo every time. Stretch true shampoo washes to every two to three days, using dry shampoo in between.
Why the Right Products Matter Even More With Natural Keratin
Our bonds are made of 100% natural keratin sourced from France — the same protein family as your own hair, not synthetic glue. That is what makes them gentle and reversible, but it also means they respond to products the way real keratin does: sulfates and oils break natural keratin down faster than they would a cheap plastic-style bond.
So the payoff of good products is bigger with a quality natural bond. Treat the bonds kindly with sulfate-free, oil-free care at the root, and the same Slavic hair lasts through two or three rebonding cycles.

What is the best shampoo for keratin bond extensions?
A sulfate-free, gentle, pH-balanced shampoo (pH around 4.5–5.5). Sulfate-free is the non-negotiable part — sulfates dry the hair and break down the keratin bonds. You do not need one specific brand; many salon sulfate-free shampoos work. Send us a photo on WhatsApp and we'll shortlist a couple matched to your hair and budget.
Can I use dry shampoo on hair extensions?
Yes. Spray it at the scalp between the bonds — never directly onto the capsules — hold the can about 8 inches away, wait a minute, then brush through gently. Dry shampoo lets you wash less often, which actually helps bonds last longer. Just avoid build-up caking directly on the bond line.
What is the best way to wash keratin bond extensions?
Brush first, wet with lukewarm (not hot) water, shampoo the scalp and roots only with sulfate-free shampoo, rinse fully, condition mid-lengths to ends only, press dry with a microfiber towel, then blow dry the roots and bonds. Never let the bonds sit wet — that is what loosens them, especially in Miami humidity.
Can I use regular shampoo and conditioner on keratin extensions?
Regular shampoo usually contains sulfates, so no — switch to sulfate-free. Conditioner is fine, but apply it only from the mid-lengths to the ends, keeping it at least two inches away from the bonds and scalp. Conditioner on the bonds causes slippage.
